BASF participates in the virtual edition of Inspiramais and presents a new flip flop project in polyurethane and TPU 3D printing

September 01 2020
The model proposed by the company consists of PU (polyurethane), a material rarely used in this type of footwear and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) using 3D printing, an innovation in the footwear market
The semiannual event is happening online due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it still presents all the innovations for the footwear industry

BASF is one of the main suppliers for the footwear industry and, in addition to solutions, the company seeks to offer innovation and technology to its customers. And that is exactly what it will do in this year's second edition of Inspiramais, which takes place virtually between August 25 and 27.

The only event focused on design and innovation in Latin America, Inspiramais exhibits the release of over a thousand materials developed by participating companies. In this edition, BASF (in partnership with Tecpol and Additiva 3D Printing) brings their proposal for flip flops in women´s and men´s versions, composed of polyurethane (PU) - a solution that allows greater flexibility for design and comfort - and TPU using 3D printing, an innovation in the footwear market.

Therefore, their flip flop prototype, inspired by the universe of motorcycles, will be displayed on the event's virtual platform. “Although we have a strong presence in sneaker production, the flip flop segment has not yet ventured into using materials such as polyurethane to manufacture its shoes. Our goal is to show the advantages that this solution can offer brands, in addition to the great versatility of design that the materials offer, explains Heitor Barbosa, manager of the footwear business for BASF South America.

The flip flop prototype will be online on the event´s platform. Visitors will be able to check it out using virtual reality, the entire composition of the product and its technical information.
In addition to the exhibit, BASF also participates in a talk on the second day of the event, August 26. With the theme “PU and TPU 3D flip flops: comfort, design and innovation“, Rudnei Assis, expert in the footwear market at BASF, Hamilton Dinarte, commercial director and developer of Tecpol products and Bruno da Costa Oliveira, coordinator Additiva 3D Printing Business Center will be participating. The experts will address the comfort and quality of BASF's polyurethane for footwear and its versatility.
The two flip flops models with their bold designs will also  be presented during the talk. In partnership with Tecpol and Additiva 3D Printing, the concept models will be developed entirely with PU and TPU 3D printing. Starting at 01:45 p.m., all Inspiramais visitors will have access and will be able to watch it.
